10 Fitness Tips: Do's & Don'ts of Working Out

My name is Annalisa and I’m a fitness trainer.

I’d like to share with you some tips for fitness “lovers”… and for those of you who are forced to practice some sport activity. I know it’s hard for you, but focus on your goals, and you’ll see the results… I promise.

Anyway, whether you’ve been working out for few days or ten years, you’re probably making some mistakes that prevent you from getting better results. So keep an eye on those few advices that I’m giving you.

1. WORK OUT EVERY DAY

Workout every day…at least walking, take the stairs instead of the elevator (when it’s possible…but please, think it is possible, don’t find excuses!), use your bike, do housework “with passion”, play with your kids…

2. SET GOALS

… and new goals once you feel better.

But remember to make your goals realistic and achievable. Keep your fitness level in mind.

For example, don’t go for a run if you haven’t exercised for a long time. Do everything step by step: walk first and then alternate walking and jogging. Running will come later.

3. REMEMBER TO BREATHE

Focus on your breathing to improve your performance.

4. HAVE FUN

Never choose an activity you don’t really like, otherwise you will give up very soon.

Make it fun!

5. ALTERNATION

Alternate aerobic activity to strength training.

And I’d like to give you a little tip: if you are working out in a gym, do some aerobic training like walking or running on the treadmill, do some fast indoor cycling to warm up for 10 minutes, perhaps you can follow some music –> WORKOUT MUSIC. This is enough to prepare your muscles to your weight training. And, after that, run again on the treadmill for other 10 minutes, you’ll burn more fat if you do it after weights. And don’t forget to stretch.

6. DIET

Pay attention on what you eat.

A proper diet influences the results of your fitness plan, since it helps build muscle mass and decreases the percentage of your body fat.

Eat: before working out (20-30 minutes) you can eat an apple, a peach or some oatmeal that are low glycemic index carbs, pure energy for your muscles.

Don’t eat: never eat high proteins and fat food before working out, these are too long to digest.

It’s better and recommended to eat them after exercise.

7. WARM UP AND COOL DOWN…ALWAYS!

Flexibility is very important and decreases over the years.

Stretching before, during and after a workout will result in a better performance, good posture, fewer injures and assures better fitness level and body shape.

So go for stretching, yoga and breathing exercises.

8. DON’T PUSH TOO HARD

Listen to your body.

Try to increase your workout routines difficulties but always respecting your body.

If you feel pain, then stop. Everybody can have a bad day, if you don’t feel well, you don’t need to do every thing that stay in your fitness plan, just slow down…and do some stretching and breathing.

9. WATER

Remember to hydrate yourself.

Keep a bottle of water always beside you and drink…even if you’re not thirsty!

10. RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE

Last but not least…follow some simple etiquette rules.

Put your phone down. Don’t answer the phone if you’re working out with other people. Nothing is more irritating than being forced to listen your private conversations…unless we’re talking with Brad Pitt or George Clooney, of course!

Take care of your hygiene…smells can be very “demotivating”…but don’t even use liters of perfume…please.
