Lately, I’ve been feeling powerless. Things that have happened to me, things that were outside of my control, created a dark cloud of negative thoughts that started shrouding around me. What kept me hanging is the knowledge that this happens to everyone. Everyone gets in a bad mojo once in a while. What sets me apart from other people is the ability to push away that negative attitude, and react instead of feeling helpless.

You also have a choice. You can also fight. You might just need some help in order to discover that positive side of you, capable of leading a happy life. Here are 5 simple tips you can use to ignore negative thoughts, and get yourself out of the dumps!

01. Become Aware.

Don’t just let negative thoughts creep on you and take control of your mood. Be aware of everything that is happening. Become mindful of what’s going on, and don’t let it drive your decisions.

02. Stay Calm.

Don’t let a negative thought turn into a negative attitude. Once you become aware of the source of your negativity, learn to isolate yourself from it. Once you do, people will start helping you rather than avoiding you. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help when you need it.

03. Prevent It.

Catch your negative thinking early on, before it can cause any damage! As they say, “prevention is better than cure”. Assess minor problems, and avoid blowing them out of proportion.

04. Is it True?

Or are you just making assumptions and creating your negativity from nothingness? Where are all the dark thoughts coming from? Try and understand if you are just imagining the worst outcome rather than looking at your situation in a positive light.

05. Search for Your Silver Lining.

Don’t beat yourself up. Ignore the negative thoughts, and look at the positive side of your situation. Every cloud has its silver lining: try looking at how this whole experience will make you learn rather than stop you.
