Born in 1950, the 7th April of each year the earth celebrates the World Health Day, sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO), based in Geneva, with different health topics that change every year to increase the general health awareness.
Every year this day wants to promote a special and hot topic all over the world, and this time the World Health Day 2015 has one target: food safety.
As published in the WHO web page, the numbers always make the difference: “over 200 diseases are caused by unsafe food containing harmful bacteria, parasites, viruses, chemical substances. 2 million: it is estimated that two million deaths occur every year from contaminated food or drinking water.”
Food is life, it’s the fuel for mankind, his source of strength and energy, but also eating is rewarding and enjoyable, but at the same time food can lead to diseases and death if this is used incorrectly.
Eating means to pay attention to what you eat, to where the food comes from, but also to its preparation and hygiene. That’s why today we can think about the slogan of the 65th World Health Day as a warning and an example for living, too: “From farm to plate, make food safe.”. Each one of us has a part to do in this game to eat food in the most healthy way. A “game” that we are used to underestimate, but vital for our lives.
