One of the best things about Christmas season is all of the fun things that happen around the day itself, designed especially to make you feel festive and get you excited for the big day. Christmas is all about the build up, the hype that surrounds the month of December, and the traditions that take place in every household to celebrate the most festive time of year. Here are 8 things you can do over the holidays that will have you feeling Christmassy in no time.
1. Make Your Own Minced Pies
You don’t need to make them from scratch, simply buy some pre made mince mix and some ready made pastry and assemble together. Cut some stars out of the pastry to place on top of the minced pies to make them extra special. They taste so much better when you make them yourself and it’s a great christmassy activity to do with kids.
2. Build A Gingerbread House
Sticking with the baking theme, why not build your own gingerbread house to get in the festive spirit. Nothing says Christmas like gingerbread, and again you can cheat your way out of baking and buy a kit that already contains everything you need. Simply put it together, decorate and enjoy!
3. Sing Christmas Carols
If you have your own piano and a talented musician in the house, gather everyone around it and enjoy a good christmas carol session. If not, just sing along to your favourite Christmas songs sans instrument but with lots of festive enthusiasm.
4. Visit A Christmas Market
If a Christmas market doesn’t get you in the holiday spirit, nothing else will. Pick a market that you know will be amazing and peruse the stalls to your heart’s content, drinking some mulled wine and eating your own weight in delicious food along the way.
5. Go Ice-Skating
Ice skating rinks start to pop up all over the place at this time of the year, so make the most of it and enjoy a few ice skating sessions whilst you can.
6. Make Hot Chocolate
What’s the perfect way to finish off an ice skating trip or a a brisk winter’s walk? A steaming mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows! Put your own twist on it by using flavoured chocolate or syrups, lavishing whipped cream on top or add in some booze to give it a nice kick.
7. Go To A Carol Service
If you’re not one for singing yourself, go to a church carol service or just a regular christmas carol concert. Listening to beautiful Christmas hymns and Christmas classics will leave you feeling very festive afterwards.
8. Watch Christmas Movies
What would Christmas be without the array of movies that we all know and love and re-watch every single year? Movies such as Home Alone, It’s A Wonderful Life, Elf and The Santa Clause will automatically make you feel Christmassy and bring you back to your childhood, watching movies in your pyjamas on Christmas Eve. A box of chocolates or two is optional, but advised.
