Thanksgiving day is a time to reflect on all of the things in our life that we have to be thankful for and that we should be grateful of. Expressing gratitude is great for our mental health and overall wellbeing, it reminds us to be happy with what we have rather than constantly reaching for something else in life. Make the most of the life that you have and be sure to count your blessings, if you’re stuck for ideas here are 5 things that you might want to give thanks for this year.
1. Your Loved Ones
Thanksgiving is generally spent surrounded by family and friends, the people we love the most and that mean the most to us in life. It is the perfect opportunity to be grateful that each and every one of those people is in your life and appreciate how much value and significance they add to your very existence. It is not often that people are able to take time out of their busy schedules to spend time together with no distractions, so make sure to enjoy the day that’s in it to the fullest.
What would Thanksgiving, or any holiday for that matter, be without food? It is something that unites us all, brings people together, and completes any occasion or gathering. Since it is a special day of the year, it is perfectly acceptable to throw all diets and sensible eating out the window and thoroughly enjoy all of the delicious sweet and savoury foods that are offered up to you today. Remember how lucky you are to have such easy accessibility to so much delicious food and try to savour every morsel.
Give thanks for your freedom in life, and remember that you are the one steering the ship, the person in full control of how your life plays out. It might not always feel like it, but you really can do anything you want with your life if you put your mind to it so lets’s express gratitude for having the ability and option to change our life at will. Make every decision with the intention that it will bring you towards a brighter, happier future.
4. The World
There are so many things to be thankful for in the world, but the beauty that can be found in nature and in the little miracles that happen around us every day gives us plenty to be grateful for. Being happy with our lot in life is important, but if that becomes difficult at times just take a look at all of the wonderful sights and smells around you. Even the simplest things can bring us joy and give us a fresh perspective on life so try turning off all technology today and take a walk outside with friends or family, revelling in the beautiful outdoors.
5. Second Chances
The great thing about bickering with family and close friends is that ultimately, they will forgive you. Whilst this never-ending compassion doesn’t always exist outside of our close circles and sometimes we get bitten in life, it is important to keep in mind that all problems are eventually resolved and life always sorts itself out in mysterious ways. Making mistakes is imperative for our growth, so try to be thankful for all of the life lessons that have come and will come your way. Have gratitude for the bad times as well as the good, they have shaped the person you are today.
We hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving together. What are you grateful for this year? Let us know in the comments!
