Listening to Music First Thing In The Morning Will Change Your Life

When I switched to an iPhone for the first time the alarm scared me so bad that I had a small panic attack. I couldn’t imagine starting the day to such a noise. A sound that, to me, is akin to nails on a blackboard.
The first few minutes of your mornings are the most important of your day and can set the tone for the rest of it. Sure, a blaring alarm clock jolts you out of deep sleep – but it also fills you with fatigue and crankiness.

I needed to change things up a bit. So, before going to bed each night, I’ve started setting my alarm tone to my favorite beat. In the morning I am woken up by refreshing, energizing music – which is a much better start to the day.
Integrating music into your morning routine can do wonders for yourself even when you’re not aware of it. After all, music can have a positive impact even on plants, let alone you.

Stress-Free Mornings

Listening to music early in the morning sets up my whole day and lightens my mood. As soon as I wake up I reach for my fully charged phone, grab my headphones, play some tunes and go about my day. Studies have shown that listening to music can “beneficially impact health via stress-reducing effects”. If you’re stressed out by the mere thought of all the tasks waiting for you, some nice music can definitely help you manage your stress and cortisol levels.

Morning Creativity

Listening to music in the morning can be a great way to stimulate your creativity. While it may look like you’re getting ahead of yourself by thinking of creativity when you’re struggling with keeping your eyelids open, that early morning fogginess can be a great resource for creatives. Ernest Hemingway, for instance, famously wrote early in the morning, sometimes not even bothering to dress.

The Power Of Healing

Music and healing are closely connected. The ancient Greeks called their god of music, Apollo, with the epithet Paean – literally, the Healer. Nowadays music therapy is a field of medicine and it’s used against ADHD and to aid people in their recovery after a stroke. Turning on some music early in the morning is surely an effective way to invite that healing power into your day.

Mindful Morning Meditation

Practicing mindfulness is the single best thing you can do for yourself. Mindfulness meditation teaches you to slow down your monkey mind, get rid of your inner saboteur, and calm your body and your mind. You don’t need music to sit in mindful contemplation, but it can make the practice feel less awkward. After all, sitting in silence in the dimness of the early morning looks like an open invitation to fall right back asleep.
