Imagine this: you wake up in the morning and as usual, you look at your phone… maybe to see what time it is… then you suddenly realize that you have sent some messages during the night, but they have no sense and especially you don’t remember to have sent any of them at all…
That’s the moment to ask yourself if you have some sleep disorders, one in particular, which is classified as sleep texting.
This new form of sleepwalking or somnambulism consists in using your smarthphone while sleeping.
Were we waiting for the rise of the machines? Maybe this technologic war begins right here, starting from teenagers or young adults, who use the cell phones to send WhatsApp Messages, to post any content on Facebook or Twitter or photos on Instagram. A social media platform that causes a kind of sleep insomnia in the long term.
What the causes for sleep texting?
Well, Professor Michael Gelb from New York University analized this new smartphone-addicted generation and find out that the main causes are hidden in stress, sleep disorders, as we said, or the intake of certain medicines.
The subjects wake up with their cell phones full of messages they don’t remember to have sent (a little creapy isn’t it?). The recipients are often beloved people, especially ex-boyfriends or girlfriends.
What are the solutions?
According to Professor Gelb, if you think to suffer of this sleepwalking disorder, it’s better not to use your smartphone, at least 30 minutes before going to bed, and keep it far away from your pillow, both for healthy reasons and to improve your sleep quality.
What if you use your phone to play some relaxing sleep music instead?
Play this music video and put your phone down on a desk in your room, then go to bed, close your eyes, and let the music lead you to the deepest sleep ever.
