Your body is primarily made up of water; to keep it healthy, doctors say that you should drink from 2 to 3 liters a day depending on your body type and weight. Here are some alternative healthy drinks that can substitute this precious resource.
Everybody has heard the advice “Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day”, but how many of you have actually followed it? Sometimes, respecting this rule can be difficult. I think that to make it easier, the phrase should be reframed as “Drink 8 glasses of fluid a day”, because all the liquids you take in count towards your daily total. So here is my list of favorite homemade healthy drinks you can enjoy instead of water!
Lets start with one of my all time favorites. We already covered the benefits of drinking tea in one of the most recent articles, so let me quickly sum up why you should enjoy at least a cup of it a day. Its high amount of antioxidants prevents cell aging and cancer, and it helps reduce the risk of heart disease and osteoporosis. So, keep up gulping down as much of this healthy drink as you like!
One of the healthiest drinks, but also one that is not easily liked by people. Tomato juice, when low in sodium, is one of the richest resources of the antioxidant lycopene (which helps reduce the risk of stomach and pancreatic cancers). Making your own at home is very simple; try adding your favorite spices to the juice to keep it interesting.
Another classic tea that can be also enjoyed cold. Mint tea is known to relax muscles and combat stiffness. While green tea is very enjoyable to drink hot without sugar, a mint tea’s true flavor truly comes out when you add honey before cooling it. Its a great beverage to drink during the summer, maybe on one of those days where you would be drinking lots of water to help yourself cool down.
Soy milk is a healthy drink packed with fibers and soy proteins. Many people prefer it to cow milk as it is easier to digest and has a lower calorie count. Try drinking it in the mornings!
When fresh, orange juice is an excellent Vitamin C packed healthy drink. Once again, it can be enjoyed in the summer instead of drinking lots of water. During this season, most local markets around the world provide fresh oranges that you can juice in a couple of minutes. A delicious, sweet healthy drink!
I hope you found this list of the healthiest drinks you can make by yourself at home useful! Remember, do not only limit yourself to drinking these, but keep drinking lots of water and eat a healthy diet to feel their effect to the fullest.
