Most of us are searching for happiness the wrong way. Try reading this article and finding out if you are doing it too.
Ask someone, anyone, what their goal in life is. They are probably going to answer you something about having a well-paid job, a good relationship… It all comes down to wanting the same thing: happiness. But what is happiness? Does it only derive from the outside, or is it more complex? I believe that happiness comes from within us, and that we must not only rely on the world outside to experience this very basic but important feeling.
If you have tried finding happiness by looking for it on the outside, your search was probably in vain. True and stable happiness comes from inside us, and we are the ones that can create it. I designed this happiness challenge to help you understand better what this feeling truly is and what it means for you. Follow this 7 day long journey, and use it to better yourself!
Reach out to someone. Start by appreciating others more, and being of help to them in times of need. Discover how your existence makes a difference to others, and that you can be helpful in dire times. Keep this up for the following six days.
Name a meaningful, important thing that has happened to you during this day as you go to sleep. Keep it up during the following days of the happiness challenge.
Be grateful. As you wake up, name three things you are grateful for in your life. Ask yourself why they make you happy. Keep this up for the next four days; try finding new reasons to be grateful every time.
Start meditation. Start by meditating for even just five minutes a day. Find some time to yourself, and enjoy staying in silence for the sake of your happiness. Keep it up for the next three day.
Work out. Start by doing a light run if you are not used to it. Go out and enjoy this healthy time to yourself,
Praise someone. Compliment someone by truly meaning it. Do not hide your feelings. The last day is right around the corner…
Last day. Are you satisfied with all of the habits you have picked up until now? Select your favorite three, the ones that make you feel the most happy and at peace with yourself: your next task is to try and bring them on through the next month!
I hope you can maintain these habits for as long as possible, even if in a slightly modified form. Finding happiness can be difficult at times, but if you search for it deep enough within yourself you are sure to find it.
