Being alone does not automatically equate to being lonely, sometimes the loneliest place you can be is in a crowd and the most meaningful, fulfilling moments can happen when you are enjoying some alone time. Human beings are social creatures, and we rely on each other in so many ways, but it is still so important to have some much needed ‘me’ time every now and again. A time when you shut yourself off from other people and the noise and distractions that life brings, embracing instead a period of self refection and a journey inwards. These 5 things will hopefully convince you that alone time is a critical need for any happy, balanced person.
Spending time alone allows us to to recharge our batteries. It takes energy to be around people – even people we love and feel comfortable with. Taking part in conversations and getting wrapped up in the presence of other human beings takes us away from ourselves and what’s going on inside us. So step away from your phone and the world and spend some time getting reacquainted with yourself, you will feel so refreshed after you do.
Being alone helps us to relax and it also means we can choose to do the things that we enjoy without worrying about another person’s needs or wants. Choose your favourite method of relaxation, whether that means meditating, getting lost in a book, taking a bath, or watching your favourite TV show, and just let go of all your worries and anxieties. Enjoy the peace and quiet that comes with solitude.
It is difficult to think properly when we are constantly surrounded by other people, and everyone needs time to reflect on the past, present and future without any distraction. It helps us to make sense of things that have happened, and gives us a better opportunity to organise our life and make plans for the future. Take yourself away from the crowd every now and again and just get lost in your own thoughts.
Alone time can help us to appreciate people’s company more when we have it, rather than getting fed up and becoming agitated at them. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, so don’t be afraid to spend time away from the people you love and then you can give them the best version of you when you do see them, feeling revitalised and energised once more.
As we tend to think more when we are spending time alone, it makes sense that we will also gain clarity about things much quicker. If you are going through a time where you are seeking answers and are full of uncertainty and doubts, take a step back from your social circle and seek solitude. Once you can drown out the noise of the world, you will soon start to see things clearly and what truly matters should come to the surface.
Do you enjoy spending time alone or do you always like to be surrounded by others?
