5 Ways To Practice Compassion

Compassion is the wish to see others free from suffering.” 

If there’s one thing the world can always do with a little more of, it’s kindness. From a friendly smile, to a warm hug, to the smallest of gestures that make all the difference, life is just so much better when we take the time to think of others and not just ourselves. If you want to practice being more compassionate and start showing compassion for others more readily, here are 6 ways to do so.

1. Self-Compassion

Before you can show love to others, you must first show love to yourself. There are many ways to do this, but one of them is by treating your body and mind with the utmost care and respect by feeding yourself the right foods, telling yourself the right things, and building up your confidence and self esteem.


2. Show Interest

Sometimes the best thing you can do for a person is to simply listen to what they have to say, minus any judgement. Lending someone an ear is a selfless act, and who knows who’s life you could touch if you just reach out and ask someone how they are.

3. Spread Positivity

If you can’t find the light, be the light! Even in the darkest of places, there is something to be said for a positive attitude and a cheery disposition, so start spreading the good vibes and soon you’ll have everyone around you feeling great too.


4. Be Aware

Having compassion means having a sense of awareness of how other people might be feeling. When you learn how to do this, compassion becomes second nature as nobody wants to feel bad or make others feel bad. Even when somebody hurts you, try to imagine what they might be experiencing that makes them act in a certain way, understanding is a crucial step towards acceptance and love.

5. Be Of Service

Ask not what the world can do for you, but what you can do for the world. The funny thing about giving is that more of it you do, the more you get back. Opportunities start to come thick and fast, you will never find yourself short of people or a helping hand when you need one, and life starts to take on a whole new meaning. Once you fully embrace the idea that you are here to serve the world, you’ll never find yourself lost or floundering again.
