Meditation is not just popular amongst us mere mortals, some of the world’s brightest stars and most famous faces are also huge fans of this age old practice. With their stressful jobs and hectic lifestyles that put constant pressure upon them, it is not difficult to see why celebrities would seek a calming influence in their life, and certainly meditation is a great way to centre one’s self and find peace in amongst the chaos. Without further ado, here are 5 celebrities that know the power and importance of meditation.
1. Katy Perry
The pop princess herself gained an interest in meditation after she was inspired by then-husband Russell Brand who kicked his drink and drug addictions through learning the art. Now a strong advocate of meditation in her own right, Katy practices every morning for approximately 20 minutes and even made a donation to a meditation foundation for her birthday in 2012.
2. Angeline Jolie
With a slightly different approach to the practice, Angelina Jolie believes that any activity that relaxes you and releases stress is a form of meditation. Jolie meditates by spending time with her children and colouring with them or going on the trampoline, and even just sitting on the floor.
3. Sheryl Crowe
After she developed breast cancer in the early nineties, Crowe turned to meditation as a way of coping with the illness and to find serenity in a difficult time. She devotes 20 minutes to meditation every morning and evening.
4. Halle Berry
After the passing of her father, actress Halle Berry began to practice meditation as a way of dealing with the loss and to help with the grieving process. She sits outside in a gazebo and imagines her father in her mind, telling her all the things he would have if he were still alive.
5. Oprah Winfrey
One of the most recognizable people in the world, Oprah Winfrey is a massive advocate of meditation, even creating her own meditation centre in collaboration with Deepak Chopra. Not only does she practice it in her own life, she also paid for 400 employees of her company to embark on a TM course which they practice at 9.00am in the morning and at 4.30pm in the afternoon. Oprah said that as a result of this, her co-workers had less migraines, slept better, and improved their relationships with friends and family.
