Do you ever feel like you don’t know what you are doing with your life and think you might need a change? Well it might just be that your life is in need of a shake up, something to reignite your spark and passion for what you do and a new goal to work towards.
Making changes first begins with figuring out what needs changing, if anything. Maybe you are completely satisfied with your lot, in which case you are very lucky. Or maybe the life path you are currently on is leading you the wrong way, to a place you don’t want to end up.
Take a look at the 6 questions below, and if you find yourself answering no to most of them then it is probably time to think about how you can change your life for the better and take your life in a new direction.
1. Are You Happy?
We all have ups and downs, highs and lows, and mood changes throughout our days but which is the more prevalent emotion – happiness or sadness? If feelings of discontentment are regularly overriding feelings of positivity it might be time to start making changes.
2. Are You Excited?
Do you leap out of bed in morning or, more realistically, crawl out of bed in the morning with some semblance of hope and enthusiasm for what lies ahead? If all you feel is dread, disdain and apprehension at the thought of another day then something is seriously wrong. If you are on the right path you will be raring to go and ready to tackle the day’s challenges.
3. Do You Look Forward To The Future?
Does the future look bright or do you find it difficult to look past today for fear of what the future might or might not hold? Our life path is certainly not a straight road, it has curves and swerves and bends and forks.. it’s a mess! But the journey should be something you embark on with fervour, not trepidation. If your expected future seems unclear, uninteresting or unenjoyable then you need to make a change to your current situation.
4. Do You Feel Satisfied?
We can become deeply unhappy if certain aspects of our life are neglected. If you do not have a healthy work/life balance or if you don’t feel like you are reaching your full potential it is easy to become disillusioned. Make sure the life path you are on truly reflects who you are and encompasses your dreams, desires, skills and personality traits. When the person you are starts to align with the things that you do, you will soon find yourself on the right path.
5. Are You Still Learning?
The right path in life should test and challenge you in positive ways that force you to grow. You should be constantly learning and progressing, knowing that what you are doing is going to get you somewhere and help you to reach specific goals. If you find this to be untrue and you have reached a point where you are no longer developing either personally or professionally, it could be time for a new adventure.
6. Do You Feel Successful?
Measurement is an unavoidable part of life, and we often measure our success by certain parameters e.g. grades, numbers, time, money. Whilst these parameters are good indicators of what we have achieved we must also be measuring how much value our experiences have, not just monetary value but emotional and mental. Invest your time, the most important resource you have, into the things that you will get the most return from using key indicators such as happiness, satisfaction and feelings of accomplishment. The more of these boxes you tick, the more likely it is that you are on the right path.
If you are trying to decide whether your life is heading in the right direction hopefully these questions will help you figure it out. If you decide you do need a change, don’t hesitate to get the ball rolling towards a new and improved life for yourself, procrastination is always tempting but when it is your happiness that you are putting off you don’t want to waste time. Act now!
