1. Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam
Locals call it “The Pearl Island”, which in itself gives you an idea of the beauty of this heavenly place. It’s the biggest island of the country, and half of it is a protected natural park. Visitors choose Phu Quoc for its crystal-like water and postcard-worthy sandy beaches, which offer many water-related activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, jet-skiing and sailing. To soak in the Vietnamese culture, the night market in Duong Dong is a must-visit: here you can sample local delicacies and explore quirky bars and restaurants.
2. Tulum, Mexico
If you’re interested in satisfying your inner history buff as well as get a beach tan and eat some amazing food, Tulum is your best choice. Located on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea, it’s considered to be one of the most amazing places in the world. Here you can visit the renowned Tulum ruins, some of the best-preserved Mayan ruins in the Western Hemisphere, situated atop of a cliff over the crystalblue sea. After the tour, you can jump straight in the beautiful waters of Playa Paraiso, a gorgeous white sandy beach provided with all the comforts for a luxurious experience, or head west to El Gran Cenote, an underground cavern considered sacred by the Mayans where snorkeling is highly recommended.
3. Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town has it all. A coming together of cultures, cuisines and landscape, this city offers an endless list of attractions. You can start by hiking or taking a cabe car to the top of Table Mountain, from which you can enjoy seemingly endless views. Beneath the mountains you’ll find some of the most picturesque beach communities, and even penguins: Boulders Beach is home to about 3,000 African penguins. Other must visit areas include the colorful Bo-Kaap neighborhood, Long Street for its fun nightlife, the gorgeous Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, and the extraordinary Kirstenboch Gardens.
What better way to remove the stress caused by your daily life, than to spend some days in the most sparsely populated country of the North Atlantic? Iceland offers a wide array of options. The Blue Lagoon Spa, with its healing silica mud, its warm and soothing water and charming surroundings will help getting rid of the jetlag. Afterwards, it’s a matter of choosing which unforgettable experience attracts you the most: is it the extraordinary natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights? Is it a boat tour along the coast to watch whales and explore the glaciers? Is it a hike through one of the three magnificent national parks?
5. Tianzi Mountain, China
Used as an inspiration for the setting of the blockbuster film Avatar, the Tianzi Mountains are a fair representation of what is called movie-magic. The fame of this spectacular UNESCO site derives from the peculiar cluster of over 3000 natural pillars made of eroded sedimentary rocks, some looking like giant blocks, others standing like obelisks or towers, many of which over 200 metres (660ft) tall. More often than not, they are shrouded in drifting mist, painting the area in a mysterious yet spectacular aura.
